Our History

It started at a kitchen table.

Ike Hamma was a racer who invented the delay box in the late 1970's after seeing a need to keep up with developing race-car technology. He and his wife, Pat, started Digital Delay, Inc., in the early 1980's to sell the 3-Digit delay box. Pat would assemble them on their kitchen table, and Ike would take orders and sell the boxes at the racetrack.

Soon, the product line grew to include the 4-Digit and the 2-Stage Timer. These were also big sellers.

In the late 1980's, Ike teamed up with Dwain May, an electronic engineer, and with Ike's concept and Dwain's design, they invented and patented the Crossover. This put our company at the top of the industry, where it remains today, offering more features in our delay boxes than anyone else.

In the 1990's, we expanded our work force, our office space, as well as our product line. We also brought in additional family members, with computer programming skills, allowing us to design and manufacture processor-based delay boxes. These delay boxes have many more features without having to increase the size or the price of the box.

Mid-decade, Biondo Racing Products approached us to become our main distributor.

And in 1996, we applied for our second patent, for the Replay Tach and Driver's Reaction Tester, which was granted in 2000.

However, during this time, Ike was fighting cancer. During his six year battle, Ike continued to race and promote drag racing, the sport he loved. He also took time to go fishing with his wife, and spent as much time with his family and friends as he could. He enjoyed coming to work everyday, talking to customers, and working on new products.

On August 25, 2001, Ike lost his battle with cancer and passed away at home with his wife and family at his side.

At the time of Ike's death, his son Charlie had already started learning the business. Now he handles customer service and races the Digital Delay car. Dwain took over the day to day operations of the business. We continue to carry on with the high standards of business that Ike envisioned.

Over the past few years, Digital Delay has continued to expand our product line to include the Mega Dial, the Mega Dial Panel, and the Elite series delay box.

For over 35 years, our products have helped our customers race more competitively. Our goal has always been to bring new ideas to drag racing, and again this year we have several new products under development.

We always strive to stay number one in customer service, and thank our loyal customers, as well as our new customers, for your interest in our company.
